Re-Industrialise at the UN Climate Summit

We are now only days away from the start of the UN Climate Summit (informally named COP – Conference of the Parties) in Katowice, Poland. Taking place from the 2nd to the 14th of December, this year’s COP expects around 20,000 participants from 190 countries. It will be an especially crucial COP as key areas of discussion include progress on the Paris Agreement, as well as preparations for the second generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). With one of Re-Industrialise’s focus regions being Silesia in Poland, as well as this years’ COP overall emphasis on just transition of industrial regions, we will be participating in two side events in the upcoming weeks.

Why Katowice?

The region which is traditionally associated with coal mining and heavy industry gradually strives to become a leader in innovation and new technologies. These ambitions are reflected in the development of modern business sectors and sustainable investments. Revitalization of a former coal mining area in the centre of Katowice enabled the establishment of the Culture Zone – a unique space now used to host several of the COP activities.
